Before You Donate to Charity!

With all of the horrible disasters that have happened lately in China and Myanmar giving to the charities that will do the most with your money is extremely important. Go to http://www.charitynavigator.org/ before you donate to any charity and make sure they are worth giving to. It's shocking to find out how some of the biggest charities in the world have the worst records! There are also some absolutely fantastic organizations to donate to! Charity Navigator rates all charities in every category so check them out if you want to donate to cancer research, the environment, the arts or anything else!

What's GTD?

If you have poked around some of the popular productivity blogs recently, you may of heard of "getting things done" (GTD). GTD is an approach to better manage everything in your life and be more productive, coined by the author and speaker David Allen. It has also really caught on in the techie/web worker world big time with people coming up with new software, web tools or just everyday "life hacks" for making life easier and more efficient.

I became familiar with GTD through the blog lifehacker, which I visit on almost a daily basis. I guess I'm one of those addicted GTD techies! I haven't yet read David Allen's book or the book by lifehacker called "Upgrade Your Life" which is a more practical and technical guide to GTD, but I think I'll be popping into my local library for them soon. I really got hooked when I finally forced myself to try the "empty inbox" technique. It's actually working for me and just that one small change has reduced my stress levels enormously.

I highly recommend checking out some of the GTD blogs out there to get a feel and see what you think. Some of the ideas are way more involved than I ever want to be in this, and some of the ideas I just haven't tried yet, but I find that the more I read, the more I slowly begin to get more productive. Ironically I think my only really big drain on productivity is reading about too many ideas :) I'll be posting some of my GTD hacks/approaches to this blog as I develop them further. Hopefully you will find some of the ideas helpful too!
